S.T.E.M. MURALS 1
These images were made for large scale wall murals inside an elementary school that has a Engineering/Aerospace magnet program. They specifically strive to incorporate engineering, experimenting, space exploration, and scientific imagination into all areas of their core subjects as well as emphasize S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) throughout their curriculum. My job was to add some energy and fun to their walls with bright and energetic illustrations depicting students engaging in these various activities.
I thought it would be interesting and fun to illustrate some young people practicing their music in their isolated bedrooms, basements, and garages the way so many of us have. Some of them may be dreaming of rock and roll super-stardom, others inspired by an artist that spoke to them or challenged them, or maybe because music is the only way they have found to effectively express themselves.
Late Night Shred
Various Mountain Dew illustrations created with Motive. I dabbled in vintage skateboarding and skate culture, revisited Dew's original spokesman - Willy the Hillbilly, explored ancient Egyptian opulence, and rocked out at killer pool parties to convey a "hi-octane" good time.

SPAM set out on a Cross-Country Tour stopping in cities all across the U.S. of A to promote their product. They snagged a super cool truck and came up with some very creative recipes incorporating their famous ingredient and served up some tasty treats along with plenty of fun. In each city they stopped they found a local artist to collaborate with them and create a poster that would showcase some of the vibe of their beloved hometown along with the fun spirit of SPAM. In my initial sketches I considered Tulsa originating from the oil boom, it's wealth of Art Deco architecture, Native American Influence, western roots, agriculture, large open prairies, friendly creative people, and DIY attitude. Here is the poster I designed for my great city - Tulsa, Oklahoma along with some shots of the SPAM truck and fun along the way.
The second SPAM poster was to illustrate SPAM fans creatively using the SPAM can in all sorts of fun and interesting ways.

I was approached by Common Coffee to help with their branding and identity, specifically with a logo and packaging / label design for their upcoming cold brew coffee release. They chose bike packing (a combination of biking and backpacking) to be prominently featured as an illustration element on their new label art as well as their logo.

THE SPACE TRILOGY
I have thoroughly and thoughtfully enjoyed the writings of C.S. Lewis since I was a kid. As with many people, I was first introduced to Lewis reading the Chronicles of Narnia (or rather having them read to me by my Dad at bedtime). C.S Lewis is a master of fantasy that floats between allegory and myth. He has a remarkably simple way of expanding his inner thoughts into creatures, landscapes, and in the case of The Space Trilogy, an other-worldly sci-fi adventure.
For my illustration class, the project was to "re-cover" a trilogy of books by the same author and make the design congruent across all three. I hunted around for some previous covers of "The Space Trilogy" and found some fun interpretations but nothing felt new, modern, or colorful enough to match the wonderful stories within, so I decided to make my own. These were not published or sold by Macmillan - they are a personal project.
